A Kawaii Wallpaper Resolution Guide!

This is a quick guide to help you choose the right resolution for your monitor and also to avoid some confusion, as starting tomorrow, I’ll be switching up some of my sizes on the wallpaper posts I make every Friday. I’ve still got the 1600 x1200 Regular version, the iPhone version, I’ve upped the quality on what was formerly the 1440×900 size, and I’ve added a 4th resolution (in effect a second widescreen).

Here is a list of all the resolutions I will be posting:

1600×1200 (for 4:3) (same as before)

1920×1200 (for 16:9) (same as 1440×900 but without pixellation on higher res’s)

1920×1080 (for 16:10) (new!)

320×480 (iPhone)(same as before).

This is so I can cover as many screens as possible with the highest quality of image.

Previously, with the old resolutions, some people may have gotten a pixellated or fuzzy image due to the res of my wall not being up to snuff with the res of their screen. My widescreen version was the worst offender, being the bottom/smallest screen size for widescreen monitors. Nothing bugs me more than low res images on my desktop, so! This must be fixed. Now all sizes will scale down seamlessly for smaller resolutions and fit perfectly with the largest of common screen sizes. Auto-fitting and stretch options should result in a clean image for every screen res.

I’ve included a chart below so you can easily see where your screen falls in the different aspect ratios and therefore which wallpaper version would be best for you. The version I will be posting is the last one listed in each column and corresponds with the one you should choose when downloading a Friday post.

Additionally, if you don’t already have a wallpaper changer program and/or are looking for one that’s pretty nice, I would suggest WallMaster (the free version). It’s really simple to use, and not to mention completely free.  I looked forever to find something to replace the one I had used for years and then lost in a computer transfer. You just drag and drop the walls you want to rotate into the file box and then set your changing interval.

Comments and questions are more than welcome! If there are ways that you think I can improve this guide or make my directions more clear, please don’t hesitate to post a comment!

My screen’s res is 1280×800. So should I use the 1920×1080 wallpapers since that seems to be the closest to my res?

Hmm…That’s what I’d pick. For that res you will probably have little bars (mine are right and left on the screen when the res of a wall is off) but if you don’t mind that, that’s the res I’d go for. Alternately, if you choose 1600×1200 you’ll have the entire screen filled, but will lose some of the picture (roughly 80 pixels on two sides). If you don’t want to worry about sizing and stuff, I’d just set your wallpaper program to auto-fit. :) I use the free version of Wallmaster and it works perfectly on the older walls that I don’t have size to fit my current screen. You can find it here: http://www.tropicalwares.com/wallmast.html
