Tools for Japanese Class: Pt 1 – Typing Japanese on Windows

I recently went through activating kana on my pc/laptop and thought it would be good to post a quick guide and some tools and resources you can use to help you type Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji on your home computer! This is for Windows only. I am working from Windows XP Pro, and the steps for certain parts will be slightly different for Vista and Win 2000. For earlier versions, you’ll need to download some packs from Microsoft (links at the end of this entry). This is by no means a comprehensive guide! There will be a section of links for more in depth explanations and directions for other languages at the end of this post. And as always…if you see a glaring mistake in my Japanese please tell me! I’m always learning and am very grateful for any help and pointers! So let’s get started!
